A 39-year-old Brainerd man died at an Illinois hospital after being involved in a fiery crash Sunday, May 17, involving three semitrailers.

According to the Illinois State Police, three semitrailers were traveling in the center lane on Interstate 290 about 17 miles east of Chicago in Cook County when the crash occurred. It was reported the Brainerd man, Jamin Perry, for unknown reasons lost control of the 2020 Red International semitractor-trailer he was driving. Perry’s semitrailer struck the rear end of a second semitrailer, which then struck a third semitrailer. As a result of the crash, the semitrailer driven by Perry and the second semitrailer became engulfed in flames.

Perry was transported to a local area hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died because of his injuries, the state police reported.

The Illinois State Police are investigating the fiery crash reported at 11:03 a.m.
