A 4-year-old boy was hospitalized Saturday, May 9, after being injured on a skid-steer tractor, north of Brainerd.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office was called at 2:47 p.m. to a medical on the 17000 block of Highway 371 in the First Assessment District. Officials learned the boy was sitting on the operator’s lap while a skid-steer loader was in use. The child was injured when he got caught in the arm mechanism — the bucket of the tractor — after leaning forward in the cab.
The boy was airlifted from Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd to Children's hospital in Minneapolis. The boy underwent surgery to repair internal injuries, the sheriff’s office reported.
The Nisswa Police Department and North Memorial Health Ambulance assisted at the scene.
