In its regular meeting Tuesday, June 4, the Manhattan Beach City Council voted 3-2 to appoint Dale Dean as the city's new planning and zoning commissioner.
Dean, who lives in the city during the summer months, replaces the recently deceased Tom Yurek.
Discussion arose among the council about instead hiring an individual who lives in the city year-round. Ultimately, council members Janis Allen and Barb Hanson-Wannebo voted to hire Dean, with Mayor Paul Allen providing the tiebreaker vote.
The council also:
• Renewed the liquor license for Manhattan Beach Lodge.
• Voted to have Hanson Property Service provide lawn care services at city hall.
• Agreed to have Stonemark Land Surveying stake a right of way on Satchell Road.
At its May meeting, the council approved a resolution removing the designation of minimum maintenance road from Meyer Lake Road, in accordance with a state statute and a memo from the League of Minnesota Cities stating cities have no clear authority to designate streets as such.
