NISSWA-The Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation is sponsoring The State of The Lakes Area 9 a.m.-noon June 11 at Grand View Lodge's new North Boutique Hotel in Nisswa.

This event is for seasonal residents to hear from several key organizations firsthand about what's happening in the Brainerd lakes area.

The event will be free but advance registration is requested as seating is limited. A lunch buffet is available for an additional charge. Local leaders from key organizations presenting on topics affecting the lakes area quality of life will include: Gull Chain of Lakes Association on the health of area lakes and waterways; Brainerd Lakes Area Economic Development Corp. on business growth and development; Brainerd Public Schools on school upgrades and a new performing arts center; Essentia Health System on available health care services; Lakes Area Music Festival will perform and provide details about the upcoming summer concert series; Grand View Lodge will provide an overview on the resort's development plans; and Karl Samp from Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation will share information on charitable funds, giving strategies and how the foundation is strengthening the community, especially around Gull Lake.

Tours of Grand View Lodge will be offered after Lakes Area Music Festival performances and lunch is served.
