Pints for a Purpose to raise funds for Gull Lake Trail
BAXTER—The Fairview Trail Advisory Committee will raise funds for Gull Lake Trail expenses 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at Pints for a Purpose at Jack Pine Brewery in Baxter.
The Gull Lake Trail is a cooperative effort of East Gull Lake, Fairview Township, Lake Shore and Nisswa and will eventually be a continuous 21-mile paved path around the west side of Gull Lake that will connect to the Paul Bunyan State Trail in Nisswa.
Jack Pine Brewery will donate $1 for every pint sold and free will donations for Papa Murphy's Pizza and Jake's Gull Lake wings will go toward expenses for the Fairview Township portion of the trail. This fundraiser will help defray expenses such as wetland delineation and archaeological and environmental studies required by grants.
According to a news release, the Fairview Trail Advisory Committee received grant money for construction costs from local, state and federal sources such as the Initiative Foundation, Cass County Fund 73, DNR Regional Trail grant program, the Federal Recreational Trail grant program, and the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission (Minnesota Legacy Amendment funding), as well as private donations from businesses and residents.
Trail sections are already complete in East Gull Lake and Lake Shore. The Fairview Township portion is a 7.8-mile segment linking those sections together. The cities of Lake Shore and Nisswa will complete the miles of the Gull Lake Trail on the north end of Gull Lake in the near future.
