Emergency responders rescue woman from Mississippi River
Emergency responders rescued a 36-year-old Brainerd woman from the Mississippi River Friday, April 12, off the Laurel Street Bridge in Brainerd.
The Brainerd Police Department reported a passerby called 911 at 1:29 a.m. to report they heard a woman yelling for help near the river on the Laurel Street Bridge. Brainerd police, along with the Brainerd Fire Department, Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office and Baxter Police Department assisted in rescuing the woman, who was found in the river.
The woman was rescued in about 14 minutes and was transported by ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, where she was treated for injuries.
Brainerd police reported the woman jumped off the bridge on her own and was alone while doing so. Further information on the incident was unavailable.
