Association of Cass County Lakes to meet Friday
The Association of Cass County Lakes will host its membership meeting at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at The Hub in Hackensack.
The meeting will offer training in identification of aquatic invasive species by Nicole Kovar of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The training is an opportunity to learn how to identify plant invasives and look-alikes of natives versus non-natives, along with the chance for hands-on touch, smell and feel of the plants, a news release stated. Kovar will also share tips and tactics on sampling protocols and monitoring techniques.
Other agenda items include a discussion on funding options for lake associations, brief updates on the Environmental Assessment Worksheet for the R.D. Offutt continued potato field expansion project and the new weevil program for fighting Eurasian milfoil on Townline Lake.
Time will be available at the end to continue work on lake association plans. Also, a resource table will offer copies of completed AIS plans from lake associations and other AIS materials.
Available for sale at the meeting will be the "AIS Identification Guide," published by the Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Research Center in partnership with the University of Minnesota Extension.
