Authorities identify drowning victim
BACKUS—Authorities identified a Wisconsin woman who died after she was found unresponsive in the water on Ponto Lake in rural Backus.
The Cass County Sheriff's Office reported Panhia Danielle Yang, 37, of Sheboygan, Wis., was swimming near shore the afternoon of Aug. 18, and was found in the water not breathing by people nearby.
The victim was removed from the water and CPR and lifesaving efforts were performed. The victim was transferred to an Air Care helicopter and transported to St. Cloud, where she died Aug. 19.
Assisting the sheriff's office at the scene were Backus First Responders, North Memorial Ambulance, North Memorial Air Care and the Minnesota State Patrol.
