Calvin Wallin will be the Pequot Lakes Area Historical Society's guest volunteer Saturday, June 16. He will talk about ice harvesting at 2 p.m. at the society's museum in the basement of the Cole Memorial Building.

Wallin and his family cut and harvested ice for many years. He will share the old art of putting ice up before electric refrigerators with icemakers were available. Ice was "made" out on the lake with an ice pick and stored in an ice house to keep frozen.

Wallin and his wife, Shirley, operate the Wallin Berry Farm east of Nisswa. He is a retired teacher who just celebrated 50 years of teaching firearm safety.
