Detroit Lakes crash causes boat to fall off trailer on highway

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. —— A woman was taken to the hospital here Wednesday, July 12, after crashing into a truck hauling a boat that was knocked off the trailer while travelling on Highway 59.

Around 3:15 p.m., the Minnesota State Patrol reported that Lavonne Molacek, 61, of Callaway, Minn., was driving a 2016 Ford Fusion when a GMC Yukon driven by 40-year-old Benjamin Reed, of Fergus Falls, Minn., attempted passing the Fusion when at the same time Molacek was going to make a left hand turn.

The vehicles crashed near County Road 14 in Becker County and Molacek was taken to Essentia Health St. Mary's in Detroit Lakes to treat injuries that were not life-threatening. Reed did not sustain injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and no citation was noted by patrol.
