The Crow Wing Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) Board recently awarded three community groups grant funding in the amount of $65,000.
"We are excited for this opportunity to bring locally paid sales tax dollars back in to Crow Wing County. This will allow local citizens and community organizations to access the Clean Water funds and determine how Legacy dollars are spent," said Melissa Barrick, SWCD district manager.
Funding was provided by the Board of Water & Soil Resources through the Community Partners Grant (Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment, Clean Water Fund, approved by voters in 2008).
The SWCD hosted a competitive grant process and received three applications that were submitted for a total of $75,000 in grant funding requests. The applications were reviewed and ranked by an interagency team that included the Natural Resources Conservation Service, Crow Wing County, Mississippi Headwaters Board and Crow Wing SWCD.
The following received grants:
• Pine River Watershed Alliance, shoreline restoration, $25,000.
• Sibley Lake Association, shoreline stabilization, $20,000.
• Whitefish Area Property Owners Association, annual shoreline restoration contest/projects, $20,000.
