Linda Walker was recognized Saturday, Oct. 3, as the Ideal Community Service Organization (ICSO) Volunteer of the Year.
ICSO members nominate one individual to be Volunteer of the Year. Besides Walker's service as a board member, she advocates for many causes: Crosslake Ideal Lions Club; Dru's Voice, a nonprofit giving victims of violence and sex abuse a voice since Nov. 22, 2003; RadKids, a national leader in children's safety and a program spearheaded by Walker; and Run for Dru/Dru Sjodin Purple Elephant 10K and 5K annual runs to raise awareness and uphold intolerance of sexual violence against women and children while promoting healthy lifestyles.
Walker was honored at ICSO's annual membership meeting at the Old Milwaukee Saloon and Eatery. Minutes, reports, director elections and donations given during the year were discussed.
Dick Maas, president of the Ideal Scholarship Foundation, updated the group on the status of its scholarship program and new adult education program. ICSO, a contributor to the Ideal Scholarship Foundation for over 15 years, thanked Maas for their dedication to supporting continued education in the community.
Donations are made possible by the support of ICSO members, volunteers and two charitable gambling sites: Bites Grill & Bar in Pine River and Old Milwaukee Saloon & Eatery in Ideal Corners.
