The Pequot Lakes High School mock trial team finished in 12th place at the state tournament in Minneapolis on March 5 and 6.

The team started the event facing Lakeville North High School, where the Patriots were the defense facing Lakeville's prosecution. Pequot Lakes lost that matchup.

The second round saw the Patriots prosecution against Breck School's defense. Again, the Patriots were defeated.

In their final round against Luverne High School, Pequot Lakes' prosecution was not enough to secure the victory.

"Despite finishing in 12th place, this was a very fun tournament," coach Dan Moddes said. "Last year, Lakeville North was second in state and Breck took the title, so Pequot faced some very experienced teams."

Pequot Lakes' Paul Sipper won an all-state award for his portrayal of witness Gene Wade.
