Crow Wing County Master Gardeners distributed more than 140 patio gardens to Cuyuna Regional Medical Center outpatient social workers, CRMC long-term care facility, Garrison Lions, Crow Wing County Veterans Services, Lakes Area Food Shelf in Pequot Lakes and Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen in Brainerd as part of The Community Giving Garden.

The Community Giving Garden consists of three major components. The first component began in early spring when Master Gardeners started more than 250 bedding plants in their homes.

The second component was the recent distribution of more than 140 patio gardens to the various Crow Wing County organizations. The third component is the planting of the remaining bedding plants in the Giving Garden at the Northland Arboretum.

The 2021 goal of the Giving Garden is to expand the 2020 Giving Garden, which produced more than 1,200 pounds of fresh produce that was distributed to the Salvation Army and Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen by producing 2,000 pounds of produce for distribution to Crow Wing County organizations working to offset food insecurity.

Master Gardeners created educational materials for each project that included seed starting, care of patio gardens and plant facts for specific vegetables. To access the educational materials, visit the Master Gardeners website at www.crowwingcountymastergardeners.org .
