Sliders are small sandwiches, and when you order them in a restaurant they generally come on a platter that includes three or four of the tasty bites.
Where the term “sliders” comes from is vague. Some sources say the name goes back to the onion-steamed small burgers at White Castle. Other sources indicate it is a term that came about as these sandwiches “slide” down easily and you always eat more than one.
No matter what the origin, sliders are fun little sandwiches that can be much more than just a small burger.
Being a breakfast person, running across a slider recipe that included eggs and cheese was quite appealing and needed investigating. Breakfast sliders are a great way to put all of your favorite morning foods together into a tasty morsel that you can easily pick up and eat with your hands - no silverware needed!
This breakfast slider recipe uses sausage, but the meat can be replaced with bacon or ham. The recipe also calls for a couple varieties of cheese. If you want a sandwich with a bit of a bite, try a smoked cheddar or pepper jack cheese. Feel free to use whatever type of cheese you have on hand - American, cheddar, Swiss or mozzarella.

Looking for a different idea for dinner? Chicken sliders with marinara sauce can be put together in just a few minutes. I used frozen breaded chicken patties when making these sliders to eliminate the need to spend time and effort seasoning and cooking chicken breasts.
Once the chicken was baked it was a simple process to assemble the sliders, and in a few minutes a meal was on the table.
The great thing about these little sandwiches is you can substitute ingredients and they’ll still turn out tasty. If you don’t want to use Hawaiian dinner rolls, you can use biscuits. No Parmesan cheese on hand? Use Swiss or American cheese.
Grab a couple of these tiny sandwiches and let them slide down! Make extras as they will disappear quickly. Happy Eating!

- 4 ounces shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese

Cut each chicken patty in half. Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese on one half of the rolls. Top with the chicken. Drizzle marinara sauce over the chicken. Top with Swiss or mozzarella cheese and place the top half of the bun on top of the last layer of cheese.
Place back into the oven and cook for 5 to 10 minutes until the cheese is melted.

- 1 pack of 12 Hawaiian dinner rolls
- 9 eggs, scrambled
- 6 slices cheddar or American cheese
- 6 slices Swiss cheese
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
Note: Sausage and eggs can be prepared ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to assemble the sliders.
Place a large skillet on the stove over medium heat. Form the sausage into 12 patties and place them into the skillet. Cook until thoroughly cooked through and meat is no longer pink.
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Cut the rolls in half lengthwise. Spray a 7x10- or 9x13-inch baking pan or cookie sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Place the bottom half of the rolls on the pan; set tops aside.

Place a heaping spoonful of eggs onto the bottom of the rolls. Place a half slice of cheddar cheese on top of the eggs. Next, place a sausage patty on top of the cheese. Top with a half slice of Swiss cheese. Put the top on each stacked bun.
Combine melted butter and maple syrup in a small bowl and mix well. Brush over the tops of the rolls, allowing the sauce to drip down the sides and onto the bottom of the rolls.
Place the pan in the oven and bake for 12 to 18 minutes, just until the cheese is melted and the buns are slightly toasted.
