Simar book reading
Pequot Lakes author Candace Simar will celebrate the release of her seventh book, "Dear Homefolks," with a reading and book talk from 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at the Pequot Lakes Library.
"Dear Homefolks" is a collection of short stories using research from her novels. The stories are set both in frontier Minnesota and modern time.
Grassroots Concert
Charlie Parr will kick off the fall Grassroots Concerts season at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at the Live Well Night Club and Coffee Bar at the Journey Church in Nisswa.

Concert general admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 with listening attention, when accompanied by an adult. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Faith in Action Booya
The fall Booya for Faith in Action will take place from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at Union Church in Hackensack. Booya is a rich stew, slow-cooked overnight in a giant cauldron with several kinds of meats and vegetables.
Everyone is welcome to this free event. Donations will be accepted at the door.
Bunyan storyteller
Storyteller Mary Schmidt will share "Bunyans Meet Rosie the Riveter" from 1:30-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, in the main lodge at Black Pine Beach Resort in Ideal Township. Schmidt will share an intriguing tribute to women in the military.
General admission is $5, or free for Black Pine Beach Resort guests and members of the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association, and there will be a free dessert bar.

Spaghetti feed
The Hackensack Area Fire & Rescue Department will host a spaghetti feed and silent auction from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Hackensack Fire Hall. Paul Nye will provide entertainment.
Legacy Chorale
The Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota will present "Autumn in New Orleans," a night of jazz and fine cuisine, from 5-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Breezy Point Resort.
