Reed to return to Grassroots Concerts series April 20

Ann Reed will return to perform in the Grassroots Concerts Series at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 20, at the Live Well Night Club and Coffee Bar in Nisswa.

Ann Reed will return to perform in the Grassroots Concerts Series at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 20, at the Live Well Night Club and Coffee Bar in Nisswa.

The singer/songwriter/guitarist has been a professional musician for more than 35 years, sharing her rich voice and expressive instrumentation. Bassist and instrumentalist Joan Griffith will join Reed.

Reed is a Minnesota native who began teaching herself how to play the guitar at age 12. Growing up with two older brothers, she was influenced by what they listened to, including Kingston Trio, early Joni Mitchell, Vanilla Fudge, Cream, Buffalo Springfield, Beach Boys, Beatles and Pete Seeger, along with the writers and singers of her parents' era, like Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin, Ella Fitzgerald and Rosemary Clooney.

Her latest release is "Winter Springs, Summer Falls," which came out in November. It is her 18th album.

This is Reed's fifth appearance in the Grassroots Concerts series. She last performed in Nisswa in October 2015. For more about Reed, go to www.annreed.com .

Concert general admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 with listening attention, when accompanied by an adult. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

At each concert, non-perishable food and cash donations are welcomed for local food shelves.

The final spring concert in the series is Friday, May 4, with Mark Olson, former leader of The Jayhawks ( www.markolsonmusic.com ).

The Live Well Night Club and Coffee Bar is in the Journey Church at 5459 County Road 18 in Nisswa.

Volunteers operate the Grassroots Concerts Series, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit under the Internal Revenue Code. The series began in 1988.
