Community members are invited to attend a Verse Like Water poetry reading at noon Friday, Oct. 23, in the Chalberg Theatre at Central Lakes College, Brainerd campus.
The featured poet is Terrance Hayes, whose work has earned him a National Book Award. Last fall he was named a MacAurthur Fellow in that grant series. His poems have appeared in literary journals and magazines including The New Yorker, The American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, Fence, The Kenyon Review, Jubilat, Harvard Review, and Poetry. His poetry has also been featured on The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer (Blueflower Arts).
A book signing will be at 12:45 p.m. and a workshop on creativity and the imagination at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23.
Verse Like Water, the visiting poet program of CLC, is sponsored through a grant from Five Wings Arts Council and Minnesota Public Radio, and is free and open to the public.
