The Commonweal Theater of Lanesboro will be performing "The Master Builder" on Thursday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Chalberg Theatre on the Brainerd campus of Central Lakes College. It is part of the Cultural Arts Series presented by the CLC Theatre.
Halvard Solness, the title character, is a master builder and self-taught architect who is married to Aline, a woman above his station. Through an ambitious career he has built himself up to be a man of power in his home town, and it is hinted that he founded his success on an incident in which his wife's childhood home burned down to the ground. Aline has never got over the loss of her childhood home and the death of her newborn twins soon after. Lately, she has also been worried about her husband's mental health, as she confides to their family doctor and friend, Dr. Herdal.
Since 1989, the professional artists of the Commonweal Theater have brought to life soulful stories told with honesty and creativity. Lanesboro is home to the company's theatre in its historic downtown. Because Lanesboro is located amidst a high concentration of Norwegian-American families, the Commonweal produces the works of Henrik Ibsen annually, and remains the only theatre company in North America with such a commitment.
The Commonweal is also committed to developing new works for the American stage, producing more than 20 world premieres in our history.
Tickets for "The Master Builder" are available from the Central Lakes College Theatre Box Office, 218-855-8199. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.clcmn.edu/arts
