The Brainerd Public Library is not hosting in-person events, but Brown Bag Lunch author visits are being presented as live events on the Friends of the Brainerd Public Library Facebook page.

From noon to 1 p.m. Monday, April 5, Minnesota author Alison McGhee will discuss her new book for young adults, “Where We Are.”

According to a synopsis of the novel, Micah is a boy who loves food, fire spinning and Sesame. Sesame is a girl who loves poetry, dumplings and Micah. Together, they make plans: Micah will save his parents from a cult leader who proclaims himself the Prophet. Sesame, whose grandmother recently died, will no longer have to make her way through the world alone.

Together, they are strong and determined. Then Micah is gone, abducted by the cult his parents have given up everything for. Apart, Micah is a boy whose life is in danger. Apart, Sesame is a girl alone in the world. Apart, everything seems hopeless. Will their faith in each other be enough to save their lives?

McGhee is the New York Times bestselling author of “Someday,” as well as many other children’s books, including the Bink and Gollie series. Her novels for adults include “The Opposite of Fate” and “Never Coming Back.” She lives in Minneapolis and Laguna Beach, California. Visit AlisonMcGhee.com.
