Local author David MacArthur will be at Turtle Town Books & Gifts in Nisswa from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, to sign copies of his books: "The Day the Water Tower Froze" and "His Name was David Sam."
In "The Day the Water Tower Froze," MacArthur recounts his 15 years working at the Mille Lacs Reservation when casino gaming was just on the horizon. MacArthur, a registered member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe, worked his way up from solid waste supervisor to public works administrator and director of small business operations.
By taking time to understand the tribal culture, he gained the Ojibwes' respect and trust as he worked to improve their lives, and took away their stories as well as an appreciation for his Native American heritage.
"His Name was David Sam" is MacArthur's second book, and it continues the stories that chronicle the struggle of new business ventures, including the successful startup of a wild rice processing plant and the purchase and subsequent closing of the iconic Eddy's Resort.
MacArthur is a longtime Brainerd resident now living in Brooklyn Center.
