Reg Meeting Minutes 8/15/22

The Board of Education Pequot Lakes School - ISD 186 August 15, 2022 A regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District #186 was held in the MS/HS Auditorium on August 15, 2022. Chair Susan Mathison-Young called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Clerk Tracy Wallin recorded the minutes. Present: Directors Kim Bolz-Andolshek, Curt Johnson, Derrek Johnson, Susan Mathison-Young, Dena Moody, Amy Sjoblad, and Tracy Wallin, and Superintendent of Schools Kurt Stumpf. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. The school board recognized visitors and those addressing the board during the open forum. Moved by D. Johnson, seconded by Bolz-Andolshek to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried by a 7-0 vote. High School Principal Aaron Nelson presented information on alternative high school programming. A Local 284 negotiations report was presented by Superintendent Stumpf. Superintendent Stumpf updated the board on the facilities study and the EPA transportation grant. Chair Mathison-Young provided a summary report on the recent evaluation of Superintendent Stumpf. Moved by D. Johnson, seconded by Bolz-Andolshek to approve the consent agenda items, as presented. Policies with legislative and non-substantive changes Moved by C. Johnson, seconded by Sjoblad to authorize the superintendent to sign the License Agreement to Use Public Right-of-Way between the City of Pequot Lakes and the District relating to Olson Street. Motion carried by a 7-0 vote. Moved by C. Johnson, seconded by D. Johnson to approve the expenditure of up to $31,000 relating to the improvements of Olson Street. Motion carried by a 7-0 vote. Moved by Moody, seconded by Wallin to approve the addition of an elementary teaching position for the 2022-2023 school year. Motion carried by a 7-0 vote. Moved by C. Johnson to approve the substitute rate changes to $140 per day for substitute teachers, and $14 per hour for substitute non-licensed staff (clerical, paraprofessionals, food service, custodians, Kid Konnection). Motion failed for lack of a second. Moved by Bolz-Andolshek, seconded by Sjoblad to approve increasing the adult lunch price to $4.95, as required by MDE. Motion carried by a 7-0 vote. Moved by Moody, seconded by Wallin to adopt the resolution accepting donations. A roll call vote was taken with all members voting in favor. Motion carried by a 7-0 vote. Information on filing is posted on the school board website. Moved by Bolz-Andolshek, seconded by D. Johnson to close the meeting to discuss the District’s labor negotiation strategy related to negotiations with Service Employees International Union, Local 284, pursuant to Minnesota Statute, Section 13D.03. Motion carried by a 7-0 vote. The meeting was closed at 6:52 p.m. Moved by D. Johnson, seconded by C. Johnson to reopen the meeting. Motion carried by a 7-0 vote.
