Author Rosemary Vaughn will sign copies of her debut novel, "Love on the Misty Isles," from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at Turtle Town Books and Gifts in Nisswa.

Set on the rugged yet pristine former Queen Charlotte Islands - now known as Haida Gwaii - off the northwest coast of Canada, "Love on the Misty Isles" is a novel with the twists and turns of the plot revolving around three intertwining love stories. The characters form a "family" that crosses cultures, generations and borders. "Love" also refers to relationships with friends, family, community, culture and the environment.

Vaughn and her husband recently revisited the Misty Isles for a nostalgic trip to acquaint themselves with the changes that have occurred in the 40 years since they lived there.

A retired professor, Vaughn has drawn on her experiences in education and living on the islands for two years to bring realism to her novel.

Born and raised on the Canadian prairies, Vaughn immigrated with her family to North Dakota in the 1970s. Now retired, she and her husband shave ettled in Florida but return to their cabin of 21 years on the Whitefish Chain for the summer. Vaughn is a summertime member of the Brainerd Writers Alliance.
