The Pine River-Backus cross-country teams began their season on Thursday, Aug. 27, by hosting their first meet in more than a decade. The Tiger girls finished second in the event while the boys finished third.
“It was great being able to have a meet, first and foremost,” coach Tim Ramler said. “It was also great to host a meet for the first time in several years. I thought both teams competed very well.”
Seventh-grader Ella Dahl was the top finisher for the girls, running the course in 24 minutes, 52 seconds for fourth place. She was followed by Mara Adams, Clair Dahl, Alaura Dahl and Brianna Hannekan, who all finished within one minute of each other for sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth place respectively.
Jacob Schnoor led the PR-B boys team, finishing eighth with a time of 19:41. Nathan Nations finished four seconds later for a ninth-place finish and Andrew Bueckers finished 15th with a time of 21:03.
“Both boys and girls teams had runners that competed in their first cross-country race,” Ramler said. “The girls team only had one girl (Adams) that had been in cross-country before. The rest are first-timers.”
