Pequot Lakes’ Calia Chaney ran in 19:37.9 to win the Friday Night Lights cross-country girls’ meet Friday, Aug. 28, in Perham.

As a team, the Pequot girls won the triangular edging out Perham and West Central. Carly Chaney placed third running in 20:45.8. Rian Zutter finished sixth in 21:45.7 and Elisa Flaws ninth in 22:23.7.

The Yellowjackets are currently ranked first in the state.

"Overall, it was great to get out and compete again," head coach Jeff Brever said. "Athletes have put in a lot of effort and time over the summer to prepare themselves for the fall cross country season. It was beneficial to get some early competition to see where we stand among some of the best teams in the state. We had some great performances throughout the day."

Jesse Clausen finished fifth in the boys’ race for Pequot Lakes in 17:43.2. As a team the Patriot boys finished third.

Ethan Johnson was the only other Patriot in the top 10 running in 17:46.3.

"The boys varsity team competed against the No. 1 (West Central) and No. 2 (Perham) teams in state," Brever said. "We had our work cut out and the competition provided us a great opportunity to see where we are as a team in the season. "
