Eli Hall finished in fifth place with a time of 17:09.3 to help the Pequot Lakes boys to a state qualifying second place team finish Thursday, Oct. 28, in the Section 8-2A meet at Arrowwood Resort.
"As a team, we knew we had a chance," head coach Jeff Brever said in an email. "I felt there was a group of seven or so teams that, on any given day, could advance to the state meet … One key factor in our race was not starting out too fast. At the start of the race, with all the nerves and excitement, it is easy to sprint out to the front and use up most of your energy within the first mile. The boys each hit their first mile pace, and then continued to run their strategized race."
Jesse Clausen placed 11th for the Patriots with a time of 17:40.4. Dawson Ackerman and Charlie Schiessl placed 18th and 19th, respectively.
Calia Chaney qualified for state with her third-place finish time of 18:42.2 as the Pequot Lakes girls placed fourth as a team. Her coach said it was one of her best performances."
"Calia ran her race and is happy advancing to state," Brever said. "She will have a lot of familiarization at state as she ran at state (St. Olaf college) a few times before with her team and individually along with competing against some of the top runners in state throughout the year."
