Scouts from Central Minnesota Council Boy Scouts of America Troop 73 Pine River-Backus were busy Thursday afternoon, May 28, helping their community.

First, they picked up the roughly 330 American flags they had placed on veterans' graves the week before for Pine River American Legion Post #613's Memorial Day services at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Pine River.

Then the Scouts cleaned the ditches of their two-mile Adopt-A-Highway stretch of Highway 371 from Pine River to Wilson Junction.

The 20 volunteers included 12 Scouts and leaders along with eight siblings, parents and friends. They collected about 23 bags of litter and highway debris that had accumulated in the highway ditches since their fall 2019 pick.
