PR-B Community Education announces upcoming classes

Pine River-Backus Community Education offers the following upcoming classes. Register online at or call 218-587-2080.

  • Heart Art Creations: 3:15-5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, PR-B High School Room 255. Fee: $5.

Heart art is anything you can think of made out of hearts - pictures, people, animals, cards or just decorate hearts. Instructor is Amber Haegele.

  • Log Cabin: 3:15-5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, PR-B Elementary School Room 34. Fee: $5.

Use various sized boxes and sticks to make a cabin you design. Add landscaping if you wish. Instructor is Mary Jo Litke.

  • Woodworking Made Easy 201: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, My Workshop Space, 1279 Roosevelt Ave., Pine River. Fee: $15.

Make a fun woodworking project to give as a gift or keep for yourself. Choose from a cutting
board or a storage/decorative crate. This class will expand your confidence with woodworking toward larger and more complicated projects in the future.

Instructor is Alan Wiener.


  • Peg Looms (Beginning Weaving): 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, Serenity Now Yarn & Alpacas Shop, 231 Barclay Ave., Pine River. Fee: $50 (peg looms Included).

Learn to weave on a simple peg loom. Looms will be provided at the time of class for participants to use and take home. Students will need to bring sharp scissors to cut rough fabric and 1-inch strips torn from sheet or fabric, which will be woven into a short table runner or placemat.
Space is limited to six participants. Instructor is Bev Kramp.

Nancy Vogt is editor of the Pineandlakes Echo Journal, a weekly newspaper that covers eight communities in the Pequot Lakes-Pine River areas - from Nisswa to Hackensack and Pequot Lakes to Crosslake.

She started as editor of the Lake Country Echo in July 2006, and continued in that role when the Lake Country Echo and the Pine River Journal combined in September 2013 to become the Pineandlakes Echo Journal. She worked for the Brainerd Dispatch from 1992-2006 in various roles.

She covers Nisswa, Pequot Lakes, Lake Shore and Crosslake city councils, as well as writes feature stories, news stories and personal columns (Vogt's Notes). She also takes photos at community events.
