Carl and Jerry Anderson were recognized by the Pine River Chamber of Commerce as the 2021 Distinguished Service Award winners at the Monday, Oct. 4, award banquet at Bites Grill and Bar.

The brothers chose not to give a speech but instead gave a quick thank you.

Because of the tumultuous last year and a half, the chamber event was a combination of both the Distinguished Service Award and the Go Pine River dinner where the winners of the annual Go Pine River drawings are named.

This year the two $500 prizes went to Joni Tulenchik and Pequot Tool and Manufacturing. The $1,000 grand prize was awarded to Robert and Betty Kangas.

Also recognized were John Wetrosky and Barb Klocke, who have both been instrumental to Pine River events for many years. Wetrosky served as executive director of the chamber for 20 years only to reprise the role as interim director a year after retirement.

Klocke has been serving on the Miss Pine River Scholarship Pageant board for 40 years with much of that time as board chair. She stepped down from the position in 2020.
