Pequot Lakes Community Education: Fall youth sports registrations are open

Summer Pickleball Open Play

Pickleball is now available for open play through Pequot Lakes Community Education.

Pickleball is a combination of badminton, tennis and ping pong. All ages and levels will enjoy this open play opportunity.

Experienced players will teach all about keeping score, serving, hitting forehands, backhands, dinking, lobbying and court strategies. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and athletic shoes, and bring a bottle of water.

Register online or over the phone prior to attending. No payment is due at the time of registration. You will be charged upon check-in each day. The fee is $3 per time.

Open play is available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until Aug. 30 from 9-11 a.m. Enter Door 4 of the High School and check in at the Community Education office.

Registration for fall youth sports open

Registration of all fall youth sports for grades 1-6 is now open.

Cross Country for third- through fifth- graders is $49. Registration closes on Aug. 18. Practices will be one to two nights per week, tentatively starting mid-August and ending mid September. Practice times will tentatively be 5:45 - 6:45 p.m.

Tennis Skills for third- through fifth- grade girls and boys is $42 Registration closes on Aug. 13. The program will tentatively start in mid-August and end in mid-September. Practice times will tentatively be 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings.

Football Skills for first- and second-grade boys is $28, and registration closes Sept. 10. Participants will tentatively meet on Monday or Tuesday evenings for approximately one hour beginning in mid- September on the Pequot Lakes High School football field. Approximate practice times are 5:45 - 6:45 p.m.

Flag Football for third- and fourth- grade boys is $55 and registration closes Aug. 30. The goal is to have one night per week along with Saturday morning. Varsity football coaches and players will be assisting with practices. Scrimmages will replace practice on Saturday morning.

Contact Football for fifth- and sixth- grade boys is $70 and registration closes on Aug. 18. Football grade will tentatively start the end of August and end prior to Fall Break. The goal is to have one to two practices per week. Varsity football coaches and players will be assisting with practices. A scrimmage night may replace a practice or possibly on a Saturday morning. The approximate time frame is 5:45 - 6:45 p.m.

Volleyball Skills for first- and second-grade girls is $28 and registration closes on Sept. 24. The program will tentatively start the week of Sept. 25. Practices will be on Saturday mornings for one hour.

Volleyball for third- and fourth-grade girls is $42 and registration closes on Sept. 15. The program will tentatively start the week of Sept. 20 and will focus on skills and fundamentals. Practices will be one night per week (typically Mondays or Tuesdays) and will end prior to Fall Break.
