The Ideal Community Service Organization recognized Ron Meyer as its 2021 Volunteer of the Year for Ideal Township at its annual meeting.

This longtime Ideal Township resident has been known to say, “What happens on land affects water,” and, "When a person retires, they should find a new career," a news release said.

Meyer did that for the last 22 years, active with the Whitefish Area Property Owners Association and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. He chaired the Pine River Watershed Alliance for 15 years and is a member of the Crow Wing River Basin Forage Council.

He's active in many other lakes area organizations, including the Association of Cass County Lakes, Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources and the Northern Waters Land Trust.

Meyer along with Cass County farmers have planned and coordinated the annual Harvest Dinner.
