Pine River-Backus Family Center: More volunteers are always welcome

This is a reminder to our communities that the work the staff and volunteers at the Pine River-Backus Family Center do is not about inventing a better widget.

The results of their work are not all tangible. These special people are serving humankind. The results are visible in smiling faces, filled bellies, happy parents, safe children, prevention work and supported families. Relief is evident when the right resources are tapped to solve emergency and continuing family problems.

The family center endeavors to recognize and then provide the programs needed in our community. Some jobs require leadership skills, strategic planning, marketing abilities, specific education and accounting skills.

Our volunteers come with the essential qualities of compassion, patience, cooperation and friendliness to do their jobs. Volunteers are the core group of any nonprofit. They provide the energy, the work force and the passion to fuel the mission and ensure the continuance of the program.

Being a part of the success of our mission is extremely rewarding personally. You do make a difference.

We are so grateful that our senior community has the heart to serve and is generous in sharing time with our Pine River Area Food Shelf program. This opportunity is open to young and old alike. Volunteers are needed to unload the truck (once a month for two hours), work on the computer during the shifts, escort clients while shopping, weigh groceries and in-kind donations, greet clients and help with paperwork, etc.

Maybe your gift is fundraising? Maybe your group is willing to do an event to support the food shelf or family center. Many opportunities are available for the person who wants to work once a month or only once in awhile.
