50 years ago, Oct. 26, 1972

Roy Sycks, on a hunting trip with Lewis Johnson, shot a bear while duck hunting west of Backus. The estimated weight of the bear was roughly 380 pounds.

The Mud-Goose Wildlife Management Area produced a record crop of 151,000 pounds of wild rice.

40 years ago, Oct. 28, 1982

The Breezy Point City Council announces a 1983 budget expense of $189,808.
