The Backus boys basketball team opened the season with a 54-41 victory over Laporte. Paul Hamilton led the team with 24 points.

Theresa Hartenstein is sworn in as the new Pequot Lakes postmaster. The city had been without a postmaster for more than 10 years.

Two juveniles are suspects of vandalism at Nisswa Elementary playground, a fire was started on the playground’s slide. Costs to repair were estimated around $2,500.
