40 years ago, Nov. 19, 1981

Pine River teachers go on strike.

Pine River students held a rally in the school’s gym before teachers went on strike. Some sat in the parking lot to protest, refusing to go to classes.

30 years ago, Nov. 21, 1991

A frightened deer was rescued from the Gull Lake ice. The rescue operation included the North Ambulance hovercraft.

20 years ago, Nov. 22, 2001

The Nisswa community library opened. Elementary students formed a human chain from the old library to the new facility, passing books from kid to kid like the old “bucket brigade” firefighting technique. The students moved nearly 12,000 books.

10 years ago, Nov. 17, 2011

Veterans Larry Tillemans and Gerald Boe spoke in Crosslake of their memories while attending the Nuremberg Trials.

Junior Abby Palmer is named MVP of the Patriot volleyball team.
