50 years ago, Nov. 9, 1972

Arvig Telephone Co. in Pequot Lakes set out on a pontoon boat to lay cable underwater for more than a mile across the middle of Whitefish Lake.

40 years ago, Nov. 11, 1982

Dave Kavanaugh made a special request for a recount of Breezy Point’s four-year council ballot. Election Day count showed Jim Minerich in first with 138 votes, Vic Elstad in second with 101, and Kavanaugh in third with 98.
