40 years ago, July 23, 1981

Firefighters battled a blaze at Northland TV and Appliance in Pequot Lakes. No one was injured in the fire.

Singer Mac Davis vacationed in the lakes area, catching several fish with his son Scott, fellow musician Thad Maxwell and guide Kevin Koep.

30 years ago, July 25, 1991

Anna Smith of Pequot Lakes carried the torch and helped light the cauldron to open the 1991 International Special Olympics in Minneapolis.

Mark Edwards of Pequot Lakes was the first to use the Mobility Impaired Person ramp and dock at the Crosslake Corps of Engineers campground.

20 years ago, July 26, 2001

Kelly Grant, 18, of Jenkins and her Paso Fino mount waon an award at a national competition in Mason City, Iowa.

Whitefish Lake resident Jim Henrickson and amateur partner Paul Lewis won the Minnesota Bass Pro-Am tournament on the Whitefish Chain.

10 years ago, July 21, 2011

Anthony Craig, a 2003 Pequot Lakes graduate, is ordained a priest and celebrates mass in his hometown parish, St. Alice Catholic Church.

The Pequot Lakes girls’ summer basketball team finished first at a tournament in Aitkin, beating Crosby-Ironton, Mesabi East, Isle and Mora.
