40 years ago, April 2, 1981

Dean and Debby Decker were the high bidders in purchasing the Jenkins Liquor Store, ending 46 years of municipal control of the business.

30 years ago, April 4, 1991

A cooperative agreement with Crosby-Ironton and Aitkin is approved by the Pequot Lakes School Board for boys’ hockey.

Channel 5’s “On The Road” reporter Jason Davis is announced as a guest speaker at the Minnesota Loon Festival in Nisswa.


20 years ago, April 5, 2001

The 2000 census shows Breezy Point’s population increased 126.9% during the 1990s, while Cass and Crow Wing Counties grew overall by around 25%.

Sarah Laposky of the Pine River-Backus girls’ basketball team is named Park Region MVP.

10 years ago, March 31, 2011

Pequot Lakes senior Emily Lueck is chosen as the Brainerd Dispatch Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year.

Because of the annexation of Sibley Township in 2002, Pequot Lakes sees its population increase from 947 to 2,162 in the 2010 census.
