Austin Kozelka, 13, of Backus raised a turkey deemed Grand Champion at the Northeast Livestock Show in Brainerd.

The Lightning Girls’ Hockey team picked up a win in its season opener against Moose Lake-Willow River by a 2-1 score. Kaylyn Eggena scored both goals for Northern Lakes.
