The Hackensack Children's Fishing Contest is celebrating its 24th year when it resumes Tuesday, June 15, at the Hackensack fishing pier.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Tuesday through Aug. 17. During Sweetheart Days - Tuesday, July 13 - there will be a moment to remember volunteers who have helped with the contest but have since died.

Early registration is recommended to improve the chances of winning a prize for first fish, which is often won within the first 30 seconds of the contest each week. There are also free hot dogs and soda.

At 11:15 a.m., minnow races begin, and at 11:30 a.m., casting will start with prize distribution at 12:30 p.m. Usually prizes are distributed before 1 p.m. Families should try to bring their own personal flotation device and fishing pole. Bait will be provided.

Some used equipment is available to be checked out on a first come, first served basis. Pictures from past events are available at the Hackensack Children's Fishing Contest web page or hackcfc.com.
