Green to present program March 30 on suffragist Nellie Francis

Celebrate Women’s History Month with two-time Minnesota History Award winner William D. Green at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, as he discusses the subject of his latest book, "Nellie Francis."

A powerful speaker and suffragist, Francis was a pioneer for gender and racial equality, especially the needs of African-American women.

To register for this free virtual event, sign up at the Legacy Programs Facebook page @KRLSLegacy or call your local library. Kitchigami Regional Library System will use registrants' email addresses to send the information to connect to the event a day or two beforehand.

A computer is not required for this virtual program. A smartphone or tablet will also work.

This free Legacy Program is funded in part or in whole with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on Nov. 4, 2008, which dedicated funding to preserve Minnesota’s arts and cultural heritage.

Nancy Vogt is editor of the Pineandlakes Echo Journal, a weekly newspaper that covers eight communities in the Pequot Lakes-Pine River areas - from Nisswa to Hackensack and Pequot Lakes to Crosslake.

She started as editor of the Lake Country Echo in July 2006, and continued in that role when the Lake Country Echo and the Pine River Journal combined in September 2013 to become the Pineandlakes Echo Journal. She worked for the Brainerd Dispatch from 1992-2006 in various roles.

She covers Nisswa, Pequot Lakes, Lake Shore and Crosslake city councils, as well as writes feature stories, news stories and personal columns (Vogt's Notes). She also takes photos at community events.
