Have you heard the old saying: ”The only constant thing in life is change?" It is with a heavy heart, the Pine River-Backus Family Center announces the resignation of Karen Bresnahan. Our friendly front desk greeter will be moving on after 23 years of working for the PRBFC.

Her initial role has changed numerous times over the years as the PRBFC programming is always changing to meet the current needs of our community.

Karen has been instrumental in the coordination of many family programs throughout the years, including (but not limited to) the public’s office needs, informational forms and applications, healthy checkup scheduling, summer programs, Christmas for Kids, MnSure, etc. Karen has worked as an administrative assistant with our other programming as well. Karen is the first face many people see of the PRBFC and/or hear on the phone.

As a Cat with many Hats, her position demands someone who can be a collaborator, coordinator, supporter, initiator and caring dependable face of our organization. When working with families, you put in more than just your time. You have to be accountable to these families. You have to maintain a positive attitude in order to uplift and encourage others. You are committing yourself not just to the PRBFC but to the greater community. Teamwork. These are big shoes to fill.

Change is inevitable especially during these trying times. We all must be able to pivot on a dime while staying up right. Thankfully, all our programs are ongoing with moderation and modification to adapt to community health demands.

Kathleen Stephan is a volunteer at the Pine River-Backus Family Center.
