Blue skies brightened an otherwise wintry day at Deep Portage Jan. 25 during the 41st annual Winter Rendezvous.

The event, which gives attendees a glimpse into the lifestyle, entertainment and culture of pioneer era Minnesotans was scheduled this year to take place after the annual Back to Hack weekend, and as a result benefited from comfortable weather. Attendees were able to practice using a crosscut saw, race in snowshoes, throw tomahawks at targets and played 'cat and mouse', a game similar to tug-of-war. Inside the facilities the dining hall was full with eager attendees, speaking to the success of the weekend event.
