Poor ice conditions prompted changes, but the annual Breezy Point Ice Fest celebration went on Friday-Sunday, Jan. 3-5.
Most notable was the pond hockey tournament, which still took place outside after being moved from the Pelican Lake ice at Breezy Point Resort to the outdoor hockey rink at the Breezy Point Hockey Arena.
Fishing was slow for the Saturday, Jan. 4, kids fishing contest on Pelican Lake, though the ice holes were all occupied for the majority of the event. The first fish reeled in was a 1-ounce large-mouth bass, caught by 2-year-old Maverick Beal.
Additional events included an outdoor corn-hole tournament, bonfire, sledding, horse-drawn wagon rides and other activities, many of which were not impacted by the ice conditions and allowed people to have fun outdoors.
Ice Fest was established in 1995 in honor of the late Etta Steffen, former Breezy Point city clerk who always wanted a wintertime community celebration for families to enjoy in Breezy Point.
