Backus Cornfest events slated Saturday

Backus Cornfest events will take place Saturday, Aug. 11, with a money scramble, parade, corn feed, corn eating contest, street dance and fireworks along with other annual activities.

Following is a schedule of events:

8:30 a.m.: Parade lineup at Foothills Christian Academy; pre-registration is welcome but not required.

8 a.m-4 p.m.: Craft and vendor fair. Submit applications to

10 a.m.: Treasure maps on sale.

11 a.m.: Cornfest Parade.

Noon-2 p.m.: Corn feed dinner with corn, ham, wild rice hotdish, potato salad and watermelon. Adults $10, kids 6-12 $5, kids 5 and younger free with paid adult.

Noon-3 p.m.: Kids games and prize table.

1 p.m.: Money scramble.

2 p.m.: Cake walk with minnow races at Willards and a bean bag and horseshoe tournament at the Backus Legion.

2-4 p.m.: Fishing contest.

3 p.m.: Corn eating contest; register at Foothills Christian Academy booth.

3 p.m.: Relay games.

4 p.m.: Tricycle races.

5-6 p.m.: Magic show, imaginick.

8 p.m.-midnight: Street dance and beer garden with music by Young Country.

8:45 p.m.: 50/50 raffle winner drawings during the band's first break.

Dusk: Fireworks.
