Community Action of Pequot Lakes will host the 31st annual Miss Pequot Lakes Scholarship Pageant at 7 p.m. Friday, April 20, in the Pequot Lakes High School auditorium.

Miss Pequot Lakes 2017 Alexis Lueck will crown one of nine area high school juniors and seniors as the area's newest royalty.

Miss Pequot Lakes candidates are Madison Conrad, Kaitlyn Deneau, Desera Engholm, Maggie Harms, Kyan Kitzman, Emmarae Lasart, Necole Lyons, Ashlynn Reynolds and Hailee Swenson.

Tickets to the pageant are $5 at the door and include a cake and punch reception after the pageant.

The first appearance of the 2018 Miss Pequot Lakes royalty will be at the Pelican Lakes Conservation Club breakfast fundraiser for the Miss Pequot Lakes Scholarship Pageant from 7:30-11 a.m. Saturday, April 21.

Escorts for the candidates are Presley Crawford, Brianna Guggenberger, Lilah Jeck, Amani Kibwaa, Cecilla Kinney, Ruby Palmer, Avery Peterson, Amelia Reynolds and June Ruud, fourth-graders of Eagle View Elementary School.

Three judges will review each contestant's information before the pageant, as well as conduct an initial one-on-one interview with them. At the event, the Miss Pequot Lakes contestants will be judged on presences in both casual wear and formal wear, as well as to their answers to an impromptu question, and they will each perform a talent.

Both the Miss Pequot Lakes candidates and escorts will perform an opening number that is being choreographed by Lueck and volunteers from the Pequot Lakes Revolution dance team.

Mistress of ceremony will be Kimberly Ziesemer, Miss Pequot Lakes Scholarship Pageant director.

A few former Miss Pequot Lakes queens and Miss Pequot Lakes princesses will be a part of the pageant program. Opening speakers and pageant helpers are Gabby Ziesemer, Brea Eckes, Kodi Crawford, Bailey Clausen, Sophia Nordby and Aubrey Larsen.

The Miss Pequot Lakes Scholarship Pageant provides prizes to all participants, thanks to the support of area businesses and individual sponsors. Scholarship amounts are Miss Pequot Lakes, $3,000; Miss Pequot Lakes Princess, $1,500; and Miss Congeniality, $750.

Anyone wishing to still donate to the scholarship fund or volunteer can call Kimberly Ziesemer at 218-851-2764.
