Pequot Lakes Community Education offers fine arts classes

Pre-registration is required for the following Pequot Lakes Community Education classes by calling 218-568-9200 or registering online at www.isd186.org and clicking on "Community Education."

• Crafty Ladies Night - Decorative Candles: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Seven Swans Studio in the Jack Pine Center. Cost is $30.

Learn new crafting skills and create new pieces. Most materials are supplied, but specialty items extra are extra. Instructors are local artists Jenni Sommerness and Darnell Nelson.

• Crafty Kids Saturday Art - Paper String Flowers: 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at Seven Swans Studio in the Jack Pine Center for ages 8-11. Cost is $15.

• Art Challenge for Teens - Marbling Art: 1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Seven Swans Studio in the Jack Pine Center for ages 12-18. Cost is $35.

• Prairie Fire Children's Theatre - "Cinderella": Monday-Saturday, March 19-24, in the Pequot Lakes High School auditorium. Open to students in grades 2-8. Cost is $40 per child; $10 discount per additional child per family.

Register children for this rock and roll version of "Cinderella" set in the 1950s. Up to 78 children are needed to play the roles of Cinderella, her stepsisters, her cat Dinah, the mice, pumpkins, cats, chicks, King Cash and his assistants, Mikey the Rockstar and his band.

Join two professional actor/directors from the staff of Prairie Fire Children's Theatre, who will direct the production and play the roles of Poppa and Winona, the stepmother and fairy godmother.

Rehearsals will be 3:30-7:45 p.m. Monday-Thursday, March 19-22, and 3:30-6 p.m. Friday, March 23.

Performances will be 7 p.m. Friday, March 23, and 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24.

• AHA Heartsaver CPR: 5:30-9 p.m. Thursday, March 22, Pequot Lakes High School Room K114. Cost is $60.

Learn the current American Heart Association guidelines for adult, child and infant CPR. Topics include CPR, AED use and choking response methods. Certification card is available upon successful completion of course. This course does not meet the requirements for health care certification.

Instructor is Terri Spielman.

• Pequot Lakes Festival of the Arts: 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in the Pequot Lakes High School athletic complex and the high school auditorium.

The 37th annual event features student and community artist displays in the gym and performing artists, dancers and musicians on the auditorium stage. Concessions will be available.

Community artists are invited to set up exhibits or to perform. To arrange an art display table or area, call Molly Wiste at 218-568-9252. Performance artists should call Pequot Lakes Community Education at 218-568-9200 to reserve a spot on the stage schedule.
