Racers, walkers and participants alike numbered more than 635 at the Saturday, June 29, Susan G. Komen Brainerd Lakes Race for the Cure, held this year in Pequot Lakes. A sea of women in pink represented breast cancer survivors at the event.

There were many people to celebrate at the event; not least among them was Leslie Helland, who received the Ginger Brauer Award for being an outstanding volunteer or worker. As for the 5K race, Matt Brickner came in first at 18:47 and Jesse Clausen was second at 19:35. In the women’s division, Katelyn Kennedy crossed the line at 22:13, followed by Carolina Alvarez at 23:17.

Wendy’s Bosom Buddies was the largest team at the event with 42 members who raised $4,083 and received the Compassion for the Cure award. Sunrise Sertoma won the Community for the Cure award for raising $504. Cuyuna Regional Medical Center raised $1,351, earning the Company for the Cure award.

The annual event held at Forestview Middle School in Baxter was moved to Pequot Lakes this year because of construction underway at Forestview.
