Delahunt honored as program's Adult Volunteer of the Year

Former educator who volunteers time to help fight against hunger honored by The Outreach Program Brainerd Lakes Area

The Outreach Program of Brainerd Lakes chose Sherri Delahunt, of Nisswa, as its Adult Volunteer of the Year for 2020.

Delahunt is a retired school teacher and volunteers her time at many different nonprofits in the Brainerd lakes area. Specific work she has done for The Outreach Program BLA include volunteering to package meals, participating in fundraising events, office and administrative help, as well as conducting a national effort to raise funds and facilitate packing events.

In 2019, Delahunt coordinated a meal packaging event in downtown Minneapolis as part of her Alpha Delta Kappa sorority (women educators) national convention. She and her alum raised more than $19,000 and packaged meals.

Nancy Vogt is editor of the Pineandlakes Echo Journal, a weekly newspaper that covers eight communities in the Pequot Lakes-Pine River areas - from Nisswa to Hackensack and Pequot Lakes to Crosslake.

She started as editor of the Lake Country Echo in July 2006, and continued in that role when the Lake Country Echo and the Pine River Journal combined in September 2013 to become the Pineandlakes Echo Journal. She worked for the Brainerd Dispatch from 1992-2006 in various roles.

She covers Nisswa, Pequot Lakes, Lake Shore and Crosslake city councils, as well as writes feature stories, news stories and personal columns (Vogt's Notes). She also takes photos at community events.
