The Crosslake Community Center’s 2021 Volunteer Like Vicki award was presented to Darlene Back.
This is an annual award given to a dedicated Crosslake Community Center volunteer in memory of Vicki Olson, a former employee and volunteer.
Back has been a volunteer with the senior meal/Meals on Wheels program since 2000 and transferred with the program in 2006 when it relocated from the Crosslake American Legion. Along with her numerous senior meal program duties, she is a familiar face in the community center’s lobby, greeting all guests with a warm smile and contagious laugh.
Senior Meal Site Manager Chris Langer said, “Darlene is the liveliest, loveliest lady I have ever met. She makes everyone feel welcome and is a great asset to the community center."
Back and her late husband, Chuck, moved to Crosslake in 1986, where she still resides. She also volunteers at the Crosslake Food Shelf and at the American Legion Post in Pequot Lakes where she is a member.
